Selection Process to Join Pak Army as Captain
Many candidates only know about the registration and the preliminary test, but the real journey to join Pak Army as Captain has several more stages after that. Once you clear the first test at the Army Selection and Recruitment Centre, your file moves forward through a chain of careful checks before you finally put on the uniform. Here is the complete picture, stage by stage, explained in simple words.
| Stage | What Happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Online Registration | Candidate fills the form on www.joinpakarmy.gov.pk and receives a roll number slip |
| 2. Academic and Intelligence Test | Written test on computer at the AS&RC to check subject knowledge and mental ability |
| 3. Physical Test | Running, push ups, and sit ups checked on the same day at the AS&RC |
| 4. Preliminary Medical Test | Basic health checkup at the AS&RC to remove candidates with major medical issues early |
| 5. Call for ISSB | Successful candidates get a call letter for the Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB) |
| 6. ISSB Testing | A multi-day evaluation covering group activities, outdoor tasks, and a personal interview |
| 7. Detailed Medical Board | Candidates recommended by ISSB go through a full medical examination at a military hospital |
| 8. Final Selection Board | Headquarters reviews the complete file and prepares the final merit list |
| 9. Training and Commissioning | Selected candidates join training and are commissioned with the rank of Captain |
Step 1: Registration and Roll Number
First of all aspirants must register online and get their roll no Slip. This slip carries test date, time, and center, and it is the only proof you need to enter the AS&RC on test day.
Step 2: Written Test and Physical Test
Candidates will appear for Written Test and Physical Test on the same day as mentioned on the Registration Slip. Candidates who passed MCQs based Intelligence Test will go for Physical Test.
Step 3: Medical Checkup
Right after the physical test, a short medical check confirms that candidate have no major health problem. This is only a first look, not the final medical decision.
Step 4: Waiting for the ISSB Call
Candidates who pass everything at the AS&RC, their name is forwarded for the Inter Services Selection Board, commonly called ISSB. This call usually arrives through the official website along with a formal letter, so candidates should keep checking their registered email and the website regularly during the waiting period.
Step 5: ISSB Real Test
ISSB is the part most candidates fear and respect the most, because it does not only test academic knowledge, it tests how candidates behave, think, and lead under pressure. Over a few days at the selection board, candidates take part in group discussions, outdoor team tasks, planning exercises, and a one-on-one interview with a senior officer. ISSB is not looking for the smartest answer alone, it is looking for honesty, teamwork, and calm thinking. Many candidates prepare for months before this stage, because confidence and natural behavior matter more here than memorized answers.
Step 6: Detailed Medical Examination
Candidates who cleared ISSB and receive a recommendation are then sent for a complete medical examination at a military hospital. This check is far more detailed than the preliminary one at the AS&RC, and it covers eyes, heart, general fitness, and overall body condition.
Step 7: Final Merit and Selection
After the medical board clears a candidate, the headquarters looks at the full record, which includes the written test score, the ISSB result, and the medical report. Based on this complete picture and the number of seats available, a final merit list is prepared.
Stage 8: Training and Becoming a Captain
Once the candidate’s name appears on the final list, they will receive a joining letter for training. After completing the required training period, you are formally commissioned and start your service with the rank of Captain in the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
This complete process can take a few months from the first registration to the final joining letter, so candidates should stay patient, keep checking the official website for updates, and use the waiting time to improve their fitness and general knowledge.
